"stylistic confidence and trademark direction"
A Younger Theatre on Five Kinds of Silence
DANGEROUS LIAISONS
UK tour, 2012
Based on Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Choderlos de Laclos
Adapted by Polly Boon and Alexandra Rutter from PWK Stone's 1961 translation Human pawns struggle for control in a twisted game. Dripping with dry wit, our adaptation brings the author to life as a shrewd chess player and an arbiter of his flawed and relatable characters. Our workshops and talks with GCSE and A Level students explored Choderlos de Laclos’ classic tale of love, jealousy and revenge, and how we adapted it for the stage. FIVE KINDS OF SILENCE
Warwick Arts Centre 2010・NSDF 2011
Adapted from the radio play by Shelagh Stephenson
Warwick Arts Centre 2010 and NSDF 2011 A harrowing story of a family trapped in a cycle of abuse, our show uses movement to bring the disturbing imaginings of a tyrant to life. Selected to perform at the National Student Drama Festival in 2011, Five Kinds of Silence won the Fest-Goer's Award (Best Production). Produced through Warwick University Drama Society. "vivid... striking movement sequences" The Stage Online |
COSTANZO
Milburn studio, 2011
From 'Costanzo/Costanza' in The Facetious Nights of Straparola (Le Piacevoli Notti)
by Giovanni Francesco Straparola Millburn House Studio, 2011 Inspired by a gender-bending 1550s Italian fairy tale, we used Pina Bausch's intuitive techniques to explore the expression and performance of gender, identity and sexuality. This was our first collaboration with Junior Cunningham of Motionhouse, whose expertise helped to produce an unsettlingly claustrophobic, intimate piece of dance theatre. "beautiful... very impressive" Dr Nicolas Whybrow |
