We presented the world's first ever theatrical staging of Hayao Miyazaki's renowned animated film between 2nd - 6th April at the New Diorama Theatre in London.

Young warrior Ashitaka is a marked man. Cursed by a demon god while defending his village, he must leave his home forever to seek a cure. In the forbidding forests to the west, he is forced to reconcile the warring human forces and the animal deities of times past. In the midst of this bitter and bloody conflict, he meets the wolf god Moro and her human child San: Princess Mononoke.

Using giant puppets made from recycled materials, visceral, physical storytelling and original live music, Studio Ghibli's epic ecological fable is retold for the stage.

The tickets sold out within 72 hours, 9 months before the show opened at the New Diorama.

"This is an ambitious and innovative production by a young theatre company which is clearly not afraid to take on big challenges."

Whole Hog Theatre Dangerous Liaisons Tour September 2012

Our debut production as an official company packed up its petticoats and hit the road! Our unique adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos' famous novel sees human pawns playing out their mind games on a giant chess board, with Laclos himself acting as arbiter of their lustful follies. Dripping with dry wit and shrewd observations, the production traveled to a number of theatres across the country to perform and run workshops in all things theatrical with GCSE and A Level students.

Reviews

"An absolute joy...an ode to the painful truth of the bitterness and joy of lust. Go see Whole Hog and be inspired."
Nick Perry, St Ivo's

Following the original 1550s Italian fairytale, we used Pina Bausch's intuitive and self-exploratory approaches to find an 'honest' means of physical expression when dealing with the story's themes of gender identity and sexuality. This was our first collaboration with Junior Cunningham whose dance expertise helped to produce an unsettlingly claustrophobic, intimate piece of dance theatre. This piece was produced as part of a practical assessment for the University of Warwick's Theatre Department.
